Erik ten Hag explains fatal Kobbie Mainoo substitution in Notts Forest defeat

Erik ten Hag has revealed he substituted young star Kobbie Mainoo at half-time due to concerns over his workload before Manchester United were beaten 2-1 by Nottingham Forest on Saturday night. 18-year-old Mainoo impressed during pre-season before picking up an injury but has since earned six starts in the Premier League. The central midfielder was hauled off for Scott McTominay as the Red Devils lost control in the second half. While Marcus Rashford equalised after Nicolas Dominguez's opener, Morgan Gibbs-White's 82nd-minute winner consigned Man Utd to their ninth Premier League defeat of the season. Mainoo in particular struggled with the attention paid to him by Gibbs-White, who pressed and harried the youngster so vociferously that his participation came to an end at the break. Newcastle 0-1 Borussia Dortmund: Player ratings as Magpies suffer frustrating Champions League defeat

Image
Newcastle United fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to German side Borussia Dortmund, with the Magpies unable to find a response to Felix Nmecha's first-half strike. A riveting start to the game saw a flurry of early chances at St James' Park, but it was Nmecha's delightful cushioned effort just before half time that gave Dortmund the lead. Despite plenty of endeavour in the second half, Newcastle couldn't find an equaliser, stumbling to a first European defeat of the season. The result leaves Eddie Howe's side in third after Paris Saint-Germain beat AC Milan in Group F's other match of the evening. How the game unfolded The feverish atmosphere inside St James' Park was matched by lively starts from both sides, Donyell Malen testing Nick Pope at one end and Anthony Gordon unleashing an effort that Gregor Kobel rebuffed shortly afterwards. The Newcastle goalkeeper was in action again with ten minutes on the clock, producing an outstanding double save...

Ben Chilwell explains Chelsea's shock defeat to Nottingham Forest

Ben Chilwell has lamented Chelsea's lack of "ruthlessness" in front goal after the Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Despite spending over £1bn on new players, Chelsea have endured a rocky start to the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, winning just one Game - against Luton Town - and shockingly losing to both West Ham United and, most recently, Nottingham Forest. A single Anthony Elanga goal was enough to separate the two sides, with the likes of Nicolas Jackson spurning a number of chances to get something from the Game for Chelsea. Speaking to the club's official website after the defeat , vice-captain Chilwell pinpointed this lack of cutting edge in the final third as being the key behind the Blues recent issues. "Very frustrating result and everyone is very disappointed in the changing room right now. If you look at the stats we dominated the game, had the possession, but the most important stat is the goals. We lost...
