Arsenal 0-2 West Ham: Player ratings as Hammers dent Gunners' title hopes

Image
West Ham secured their first Premier League win at the Emirates Stadium since 2015 and damaged Arsenal's title hopes with a surprise 2-0 London derby victory on Thursday evening. A calamitous scramble in the Gunners box ended when Tomas Soucek arrived to belt in the opener before Konstantinos Mavropanos flicked in James Ward-Prowse's corner to double the Hammers' lead. Arsenal could not muster a response despite the likes of Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus having good opportunities, allowing Liverpool to grow a two-point lead at the top of the table at the conclusion of Gameweek 19. How the game unfolded West Ham showed threatening signs early on as Ward-Prowse fired goalwards from 20 yards, his effort just soaring over David Raya's goal. Nice work from Ben White, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard helped Mikel Arteta's side fashion their first major opening with the ball falling to Bukayo Saka, but the England winger's effort was fired disappoin...

Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd: Player ratings as Dalot earns late red card in goalless draw

Liverpool and Manchester United served up a grim goalless draw at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Both sides emerged with a point yet neither deserved anything from a historic derby that always earns top billing but offered precious little entertainment this weekend. Diogo Dalot's stoppage-time red card came too late for Liverpool to capitalise, although, there was scant evidence to suggest that the hosts had the composure to punish United's indiscipline. A draw left Liverpool in second place, one point behind new leaders Arsenal while United are somehow as high as seventh. How the game unfolded In front of the biggest Anfield crowd since 1963, Liverpool were a furious red blur to begin the Game . Yet, Manchester United managed to weather the early onslaught and the 57,000 packed into Merseyside were oddly subdued for large swathes of the first half. Those watching on needn't have looked towards Alisson's goal, the first 45 minutes took place almost exclusively inside Unit...

Copenhagen 4-3 Man Utd: Player ratings as 10-men Red Devils fall to dramatic comeback

Image
Manchester United’s hopes of reaching the knockout rounds of the Champions League hang in the balance after a shock 4-3 defeat at the hands of Copenhagen on Wednesday night. Erik ten Hag’s side led 2-0 in the first half after a brace from Rasmus Hojlund against his former club, but Marcus Rashford’s dismissal before half-time made things difficult. Mohamed Elyounoussi and a Diogo Goncalves penalty drew Copenhagen back level in first half stoppage time. Bruno Fernandes then looked like he’d done enough for United to escape with the victory by converting a penalty of his own. But the drama continued late on when Lukas Lerager equalised for the Danes, before a final surge saw 17-year-old prodigy Roony Bardghji win it in dramatic fashion. United, having been second in the group standings when they were leading, finished the night bottom of the table and face a steep uphill battle on the final two matchdays to progress. How the game unfolded Ten Hag’s team couldn’t have wished for a better...

Newcastle 0-1 Borussia Dortmund: Player ratings as Magpies suffer frustrating Champions League defeat

Image
Newcastle United fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to German side Borussia Dortmund, with the Magpies unable to find a response to Felix Nmecha's first-half strike. A riveting start to the game saw a flurry of early chances at St James' Park, but it was Nmecha's delightful cushioned effort just before half time that gave Dortmund the lead. Despite plenty of endeavour in the second half, Newcastle couldn't find an equaliser, stumbling to a first European defeat of the season. The result leaves Eddie Howe's side in third after Paris Saint-Germain beat AC Milan in Group F's other match of the evening. How the game unfolded The feverish atmosphere inside St James' Park was matched by lively starts from both sides, Donyell Malen testing Nick Pope at one end and Anthony Gordon unleashing an effort that Gregor Kobel rebuffed shortly afterwards. The Newcastle goalkeeper was in action again with ten minutes on the clock, producing an outstanding double save...
