TAYLOR SWIFT FAN STUNNED TO LEARN SWIFTIES MAY HAVE LOWERED PRICE OF EGGS IN THE U.S.
Taylor Swift fans — affectionately known as ‘Swifties’ — have demonstrated the breadth of their influence on more than one occasion. Now, they’ve allegedly leveraged a decrease in egg prices in the United States.
TikTok user Bethany (@bethany_pendleton13) took to the platform to share her surprise after realizing that Taylor Swift’s adoring and loyal faNBAse may have single-handedly caused the price drop of eggs by 13%. To make matters even more serendipitous, 13 happens to be Taylor’s lucky number.
“YOU’RE KIDDING—,” read the text on the video.
The video, which has garnered 1.6 million views and 252,000 likes, shows Bethany with her hand covering her mouth in disbelief, as a split image of Taylor Swift and Trevor Noah chatting about the price of eggs during the 2023 Grammy Awards and a line graph showing the “U.S. Eggs Price per dozen 2019-2023” is seen behind her.
During the 2023 Grammy Awards in early February, Trevor Noah, who hosted the annual live event, struck up a conversation with the “Mastermind” hitmaker.
“You have the best fans in the world,” Trevor tells Taylor. “What they did with Ticketmaster… is amazing. I’m just wondering once they’re done with this, can you get them to handle the price of eggs?”
“There’s really nothing that they can’t accomplish,” responds Taylor. “They’ll get on it, just let them know what you need.”
Trevor concluded, “Swifties: price of eggs, down.”
As Americans are well aware by now, the cost of eggs has soared in the last year largely due to what’s being deemed the ᴅᴇᴀᴅliest outbreak of bird flu in U.S. History. According to new data from the Consumer Price Index, the price of eggs rose 70% in January 2023 compared to January 2022.
The Ticketmaster situation, on the other hand, refers to how a flurry of displeased Swifties — more than two dozen — filed a class-action lawsuit against the ticket sales’ parent company, Live Nation, accusing the enтιтy of misrepresentation and fraud over the mishandled ticket sales for Taylor’s Era Tour in mid-November 2022.
Bethany added a disclaimer in the comments, noting that the drop in egg prices wasn’t actually as instantaneous as she’d thought.
“Okay so apparently the drop was at the start of January but still I love this.”
Fellow TikTokers weighed in in the comments. Many of them acknowledged just how “hard working” Swifties are.
“The country works hard but Swifties work harder,” wrote @alvurdur
“I don’t listen to Taylor Swift much.. but if there’s any group of people I like.. it’s the Swifties lowkey, y’all funny asf bro,” commented @heatherbetherr.
While Swifties can’t fully take credit for the nation’s welcomed drop in egg prices, there’s definitely no denying the power they have in bringing about change.
