The Philadelphia Phillies will host the San Francisco Giants for game one of their three-game set this Monday from Cotizens Bank Park.
Giants Preview & Projected Starter
San Francisco comes in at 65-59 after dropping two of three to Atlanta. The Giants snapped a three-game skid with a game three win over the Braves, and they’ll look for better results in Philly this week. The San Francisco offense is scoring 4.81 runs per game, while batting .250, with a .326 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.89 ERA, with a 1.29 WHIP.
Scott Alexander (6-2, 4.06 ERA, 22 Ks) will open the game for San Francisco. The left-handed specialist didn’t perform well in his lone spot in Atlanta last week, giving up a hit and a walk, before being pulled after recording just one out. Alexander’s role is light, so it’s hit or miss, and he’ll attempt to come out better here in Philly.

Giants Player Trends & Props
• Wilmer Flores homered in the game three win in ATL, and he leads SFG in batting (.301) and home runs (17), with 43 RBI.
• J.D Davis had multiple hits on the final two matchups with the Braves, and he leads the team in hits (96), with fifteen home runs and 57 RBI.
• Mike Conforto has multiple hits in five of the last eight Games, and he’s posting splits of .249/15/55.
Phillies Preview & Projected Starter
Philadelphia moved to 67-57 after dropping two of three to Washington. The Phillies were held off by the youthful Nats in the Little League Classic, and they’ll now look to keep their lead on the NL Wild Card this week against San Fran. The Philly offense is scoring 4.13 runs per Game, while batting .254, with a .322 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.98 ERA, with a 1.25 WHIP.
Aaron Nola (10-8, 4.58 ERA, 160 Ks) will take the mound for Philadelphia. The ninth-year pitcher felt the benefits of run support last week in Toronto, as he gave up four runs in five innings, but still managed to pin his tenth win of the season. Nola’s been a hit-or-miss pitcher since the pandemic season, and nothing’s changed here in 2023 from a consistency standpoint. Nola has allowed four runs or more in three of his last four starts, but he’ll have a manageable matchup here against the Giants at home.
Phillies Player Trends & Props
• Nick Castellanos has totaled multiple bases in seven of the last ten games, and he’s posting strong splits of .277/21/78.
• Bryson Stott has collected a hit in four of his last five games, and he’s posting team-leads in batting (.295) and hits (134).
• Kyle Schwarber has produced a run in three of the previous four Games, and he’s among league leaders in homers (32), while being tied for the team-lead in RBI with 78.
• Alex Bohm has recorded a hit in four of the last six Games, and he’s third on the team in RBI (76), while hitting .283.
• Bryce Harper has totaled multiple bases in two of the last four Games, and he’s batting .292, with 40 RBI through 90 Games.
Corey’s Free Pick
This series will have NL playoff implications, as both talented ball clubs are out of reach for a division crown, and they’ll need to secure wildcard spots if they want to play postseason ball. After dropping a divisional series to Washington, Philly now has Miami on their heels, along with their counterparts here, San Francisco. This may not be a sweep, but this is a home series I feel the Phillies will get up for, and play with some urgency. The Phils walk into this series with a massive advantage at the plate, and I like leaning on that here in game one as well. Back Philadelphia for game one this Monday.
